Team of the Season

It's that time of year, so here is a purely subjective selection of the best performers in the Barclays Premier League in each position so far this season.

Goalkeeper
Among the contenders for the best-keeper is Brad Friedel - consistency personified at Blackburn; Pepe Reina - still one of the hardest of all to beat; Manuel Almunia.

But the accolade goes to West-Ham keeper Robert Green, who has built on last season's progress. undoubtedly the most consistent of the England candidates.
Defenders
William Gallas and Kolo Toure have lent solidity to the Arsenal defence while Sol-Campbell has led Portsmouth from the back. Bacary Sagna has fitted in seamlessly at Arsenal.

Midfielders
Cristiano Ronaldo - The Manchester United ace is in the running for all the top individual awards these days, and his performances this season have simply underlined why.

Elano has been a revelation in English football. Despite his credentials with Brazil, the 26-year-old playmaker was virtually unknown to a British audience while plying his trade with Shakhtar Donetsk, but has made an immediate impact on joining Manchester City.

Strikers
Fernando Torres, who has quickly come to look every inch a Liverpool player with a range of skills that beg the question why Benitez does not pick him for every match.
There is Roque Santa Cruz - whose value to Blackburn has become apparent.
